Academic Year 2017-2018

Welcome back everyone to a brand new year in Dosbarth Tiwlip.  We have a mixed class of Reception and Nursery children and lots of amazing staff. Our teacher is Miss Crumpton,  and we also have Miss Roberts, Miss Allenden and Mrs Hall within our classroom during the year.

We follow a visual timetable that helps us remember our daily routine, such as guided reading, phonics, focussed tasks, circle time, snack time etc. We also promote independent learning, encouraging children to select a learning area every day where they wish to develop and further their learning. In our class we have areas such as the cosy corner, monster maths, incredible writers etc which our children help to plan for. They usually have much better ideas than the adults.

We also promote a growth mindset way of thinking and approaching learning to help our children to learn new things, be resilient and never give up. This helps our brains to GROW!!!!!

Things to remember:

– PE is on a Tuesday. Please make sure children have a white t-shirt, black shorts and black plimsoles/trainers in school, all clearly labelled in a named bag.

– Reading books will be sent home on a Friday and need to be returned  by a Wednesday at the latest the following week. Please can you write a comment in the space provided in your child’s green reading record book. Also please encourage your child to complete the activities in the record book too.

– Please check your child’s journal on seesaw weekly as we will be informing you and your child of things we need them to look at ready for school.

We are looking forward to a fabulous first term, working on our awesome new topic SUPER ME, SUPER HEROES!!!!!!!

Academic Year 2016 – 2017

This term our topic has been ‘Let’s Go on Holiday’. So far we have compared different holidays, packing suitcases of things we would take for different holidays. We have painted pictures and wrote about our favourite holidays and  we have discussed the importance of staying safe in the sun. We are also going to explore and compare holidays from the past and take a trip into the future thinking about what holidays will be like then.

In Maths, we have began to use ten frames and bar models to help us to look at numbers in different ways. Please look at our Seesaw class feed for a educational video all about ten frames. If any parents need anymore information about your child’s seesaw account dont hesitate to ask one of our members of staff.

We have had some fantastic events this Summer term so far. Please take a look below at some pictures of these fabulous events. A huge, super well done to all our amazing athletes in each of their races during our Sports morning, you were so fabulous and so well behaved cheering on each of your friends and fellow house team mates.  Coming up this term, we still have our school trip to the Blue Planet aquarium (details to follow), our common transfer day where our children have the opportunity to meet their new class teacher ready for September and our fabulous PTA Summer Fayre and Summer Disco.

Finally, we would just like to thank all our lovely children on their fantastic performance  during our last class service. We are so, so proud of each and everyone of you, and also many thanks to all you fantastic parents for supporting us and laughing at all the right moments!!

Events/Celebrations this  academic year 2016-2017

1st March – We celebrated St David’s Day in school. The children had the opportunity to dress in traditional costume, Welsh rugby/football tops or other Welsh themed clothes. (Please see picture below) The children took part in many activities based on celebrating our Welsh culture. We sang the Welsh National Anthem, listened to and watched the story of St David, created and made daffodils, leeks, Welsh flags, sheep collages and even got to taste different foods associated or made locally in Wales. We also had a visit from our lovely Garden Village Playgroup children too! Take a look at our fabulous pictures from this days events.

Spring Term 2017

Our topic was ‘ANIMALS AROUND THE WORLD’. We asked the children to complete a little research project based around ‘Animals’ to see what they already know about the topic at the start of the term and the finished products were astounding. Each of our teachers found out something new!!! Our role play was a fabulous pet grooming parlour entitled ‘CANINE CUTS’ where we had some amazing canine creative hairstyles.

During the topic, we explored and shared our favourite pets and looked at the importance of taking care of our pets properly. We made bird feeders, went bird watching, looked at animal habitats around the world, and compared different animals, as well as many other interesting activities and projects. Alongside our study of our topic, we focused closely on one of our favourite authors ‘Julia Donaldson’.

We also took part in our annual School Eisteddfod which was a great success. Many of our class were successful in the various competitions and events, and everyone took part in the Foundation Phase choir competition. Well done guys and super well done to the house of Alyn who won overall!!!! Reception children got a special treat when they got to see the awesome Rock & Roll panto ‘Aladdin’ at Theatr Cymru, they were all dancing in the aisles, teachers included. And finally, huge congratulations to our children on their first class service, you were all amazing. Very proud teachers and parents I imagine.

Autumn Term 2016

We had a fabulous first term. We were so proud of all that the children achieved. We were introduced to our new school Golden Principles, every child took ownership over his/her Class Dojo and we began exploring Growth Mindset as a new approach to  learning. Congratulations to Harry and Faith for being appointed as our new class school council representatives.

We had a super first topic entitled  ‘Let’s Play’. During this topic, we found out lots about and completed activities based on different toys and games. We got  to talk about our favourite toys, found out how toys work, looked at toys/games from the past and around the world, plus many more interesting things

On a Friday, we introduced our ‘Show & Tell’ sessions which we will continue with this term too. We encourage children to bring to school an object of interest to share with others, this might be a special toy, photograph, award/certificate etc that they would like to talk about and share with their fellow classmates and which we can then keep examples of up on our ‘Class Celebration Wall’. We look forward to seeing what the children bring in this term!!!!

We were also extremely proud of our children and their fabulous, mesmerising performances in our Christmas production ‘Shine, Star, Shine’. I’m sure you will all agree we have some future stars of the screen and stage following those performances.
