Look at what we have been doing this week!

We have been showing how confident we are by listening to and joining in with songs and rhymes!

IMG_0455

We have been making ‘Face biscuits’ and showing how we can share and take turns! The biscuits were YUMMY!!

IMG_0456

We are so proud of ourselves! What a super class we are! Do you know that we even showed our teachers how we can wash our hands properly!

IMG_0457

Are the nursery class smiles bigger than the smiles on the biscuits? We love to smile! We have been learning to think about others as well as ourselves.

IMG_0458

Can we eat our biscuits now?………Pleeeeeeaaaaaase?! It’s hard to be patient sometimes! Even the teachers wanted to eat their biscuits straight away!!

IMG_0459 IMG_0460

What super concentration! We had to listen so carefully to instructions. Spreading the icing was really tricky! Mrs Roberts found sharing the sweets hard but the children showed her how it’s done!

My smile is the biggest!! We love our new nursery class!

We have enjoyed exploring all the new activities, toys and games in our new classroom! This has helped us to learn how to take care of things and tidy away!

We have been exploring lots of different materials and resources to show how we can use our fine motor skills! The children loved the brightly coloured dough!

Nursery Class

Croeso i’r Dosbarth Pansi

Welcome to the Pansy Class

Autumn Term 2017

A very warm welcome to all our new nursery pupils and parents. We hope you have had a lovely summer and are now ready to begin this wonderful journey here at Wat’s Dyke C.P.

In Dosbarth Pansi we have three members of staff:

  • Miss Jones (Class Teacher)
  • Mrs Bennett (Classroom Assistant & Incy Wincy)
  • Mrs Pattendon (Classroom Assistant)

As I am sure you are now aware the school doors open at 8:45am , children make their way to class and register in at 8:55am. During the nursery session children will sit down for a snack which includes a selection of prepared fruit and vegetables with a drink of milk/water. The children will go outside for a 15 minute break so please ensure your child comes into school with appropriate clothing (winter coat, hat, gloves for cold weather)

We encourage pupils to become independent learners and teach them to do so through a ‘Growth Mindset’. We also follow our five ‘Golden Principles’ which underpin this teaching/learning approach…

Our Golden Principles are:

  • I am resilient
  • I show respect
  • I am responsible
  • I am a team player
  • I learn well

In our classroom we have many areas for the children to explore such as a Role Play area, Writing Table, Book Nook, Cutting Table, Maths Area, Construction and Small World. The children will also spend time in the departments shared area which houses lots of exciting and fun learning stations including Water, Sand, Dressing Up and many more to help develop lifelong skills. We also have a fantastic Outdoor Area which the children will also access daily.

During the year we will post short video clips and online activities through the interactive tool ‘SeeSaw’. This is a great communication tool which enables us to inform you about any current topics we are studying and future skills we will be learning.

Important things to remember!

  • P.E is on a Monday.
  • Reading books will be sent home on a Friday. Please return by the following Wednesday to allow time to change the books.
  • Please comment on how well your child has completed the reading focus and fill in any activity pages in the reading diary with your child.

Summer Term 2017

holiday

A warm welcome back to the final stretch! Over this Summer term our topic will be, ‘Lets go on Holiday!’. The children will be having lots of fun learning about holiday locations, travel, activities and much more.

The role play area has been transformed into a, ‘Seaside Shop’. Opportunities to get into character as a shop keeper and customer will encourage the children to develop their language skills. The class have already enjoyed exploring in this shop with shells, beach pebbles, swimming pool inflatables and lots of other much needed holiday items!

Our ‘Book Nook’ contains some wonderful books both ficiton and non-fiction all relating to our new topic. Some of the books include, ‘Spot goes on Holiday’, ‘Lulu’s Holiday’, ‘My First Suitcase’, ‘Under the Sea’ and many more!

We will be looking at the various ways to travel on holiday and taking a look at some basic maps. There will also be lots of discussion about how to stay safe on holiday and particuarly staying safe in the sun! The children will be given plenty of opportunities to form group discussions and research this topic independently. There will be many more fun and exciting opportunities for the children to learn and grow during this term. We will be taking numerous activities into the outdoor area so fingers crossed for lots of sunshine!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and all the hard work you do at home with your children which helps scaffold their learning in school.

Spring Term 2017

Happy St Davids Day!

1st March – We celebrated St David’s Day in school. The children had the opportunity to dress in traditional costume, Welsh rugby/football tops or other Welsh themed clothes. (Please see picture below) The children took part in many activities based on celebrating our Welsh culture. We sang the Welsh National Anthem, listened to and watched the story of St David, created and made daffodils, leeks, Welsh flags, sheep collages and even got to taste different foods associated or made locally in Wales. Take a look at our fabulous pictures from this days events.

Our topic this term is ‘Animals’  animals

Dosbarth Pansi will be researching animals, habitats, behaviour, diets and much more. We are busy changing our role play area into a Vet Surgery and children are getting very excited watching the area transform. We may have some exciting trips planned during this term and will provide more information soon.

The homework this term is to research animals and create a project on any animal the children choose. The homework can be presented in any way your child would like and the task is very open ended.

As we focus on a specific ‘Golden Principle’ each term our new principle is, ‘I learn well’. Children will be encouraged to show independency in their learning and always try their best.

A quick reminder:

Our P.E day is on a Monday and so children may sometimes be a little delayed at home time due to changing back into uniforms after the lesson.

Dosbarth Pansi met Santa today! Have a fantastic Christmas and we’ll see you in the New Year!

Autumn Term 2016

Miss Jones, Mrs Harris and Mrs Bennett would like to welcome all our new Nursery children to their first term in school!

A very warm welcome to all our parents and pupils! We hope you have had a lovely summer and you are now ready for a term packed full of fun! Our topic this autumn is ‘Toys – Let’s Play!’. Over the next few weeks we will be helping the children to settle into their new environment, encourage new friendships to blossom and introduce the children to some stimulating focused activities which will be related to the topics.

toys

The role play area will be transformed into a Toy Shop and pupils will be encouraged to take on the role of a customer/employer and develop their language and communication skills with one another. There will also be a till and play money for the children to develop their number recognition.

We will also be finding out about old and new toys and the ways in which toys can move. The mechanics of the toys will be discussed and investigated looking closely at what makes a toy move (our hands, wind-up toys, batteries, electricity etc.). We will also look at toys from around the world and compare them to the toys we play with in school and at home. And of course we will be looking at our favourite toys!

Children will also have to opportunity to relax and spend some time in our ‘Book Nook’ where they will have access to various books including fiction/nonfiction as well as books relating to the topic. There is also a listening station for children to play story tapes and CD’s enabling them to develop their listening and I.T skills.

As well as the other numerous areas for the children to explore inside the classroom and within the lower foundation department we will also be spending periods of time in the great outdoors! As Septembers weather is looking promising this will hopefully be a lovely opportunity for the pupils to work and explore in a greater amount of space. However, we will also be bearing the winter weather for shorter periods of time in the outdoors so can I use this opportunity to ask that your child has the appropriate clothing come the cooler temperatures (winter coat, hat and gloves).

As the term progresses P.E lessons will begin so can you please make sure your child has their P.E kit which can stay in school for the term on their peg (P.E kit required is white shorts and t-shirt). Can I please stress the importance of putting your child’s name in every piece of clothing they bring into school as this will save a lot of confusion and pieces of clothing from going missing.

The role play area has been transformed into ‘The Teddy Bears Picnic’. Opportunities to dress up as a bear and serve tea and cake amongst other teddy bears and friends will spark communication and language skills throughout.

Our ‘Book Nook’ will include some wonderful books both fiction and non-fiction about cuddly and not so cuddly bears. Some of the books will include, ‘Peace at last’, ‘Old bear’, ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’, ‘Jungle book’ and many more!

We will be looking at the history of teddy bears and discussing similarities and differences to the modern teddy bears. If anyone has any old teddy bears at home and wouldn’t mind them coming in to school for us to look at that would be great.

There will be many more fun and exciting opportunities for the children to learn and grow during this term. We will be taking numerous activities in to the outdoor area and so fingers crossed for lots of sunshine!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and all the hard work you do at home with your children which helps scaffold their learning in school.

Spring Term 2016

Dosbarth Pansi had a lovely first term at school. The children were very busy learning new routines/skills and even managed to rehearse and put on a class worship and Christmas concert. New friendships have also blossomed as the pupils have settled into the classroom environment which I’m sure will continue to grow throughout the year.

The role play area will be transformed into an enchanted castle where the children can dress up and play various Fairy Tale characters.

Our ‘Book Nook’ will be filled with lots of Fairy Tale books for the children to read and explore throughout the morning. The listening station will also have Fairy Tale cassettes and CD’s for the children to listen to.

Focused activities will be topic related such as writing tasks linked to Fairy Tale stories, characters and plots. And maths activities will involve tasks such as counting the 7 dwarfs and putting the Three Bears into size order.

The outdoor area is a continuous learning environment throughout the year and Dosbarth Pansi will be taking part in activities outside and bearing the winter weather. Can I please ask that your child has appropriate clothing for the colder weather i.e. winter coat, hat, gloves etc. and that belongings are labelled with your child’s name.

We look forward to seeing you later on in the term and hope you can join us for our next class assembly.
