Sustainable Palm Oil - RapScience

We want to make sustainable palm oil the norm. And to do this we need your help!

In collaboration with Jon Chase, we've created a rap all about sustainable palm oil to help raise awareness about this important conservation issue.

Join in and spread the word!

Lyrics:

There’s a problem, or maybe a couple
Haven’t you heard? The wildlife is in trouble,
Orangutans, rhinos, sunbears and trees,
and a world of key species, not just these,
We depend on the forests, the lungs of the earth,
We cut them all down and its the wildlife that it hurts,
Yeah, we need stuff, but a healthy planet comes first
So let’s be the doctor, the cure and the nurse,
Cos every choice that we make has an impact,
like the type of palm oil that we bring back,
from a shop visit, that simple decision,
can threaten wildlife or assist in this vision.
And online posts make a whole lot of difference,
Imagine the effect when the whole world listens,
So if you’re ready to embark on this mission,

We can all play a part in preventing extinction

Ready and able, let’s reset the balance,
With the, Sustainable Palm Oil Challenge
It's a little thing we can all manage,
so let’s Act for Wildlife, reverse the damage,
Nature’s nervous, so let’s go the distance,
The choice of a purchase can make a real difference
So here’s some verses to get your heads thinking
What’s the purpose? PREVENTING EXTINCTION!

Down at Chester Zoo, the conversation is,
how to find the best solutions with conservationists,
and the many scientists across the globe,
all working as a team and sharing what they know,
they work in the wild with the local communities,
supporting the cause and replacing trees,
And when orangutans’ home lands are blocked by rivers,
the crew from the zoo go and build a few bridges,
They lead by example, the zoo stays loyal,
All their palm products use sustainable oil,
But could a whole city ever take this on?
Well they’ve got a campaign to become the first one.
They keep other zoos and politicians informed,
to make sustainable palm oil the norm,
Now it’s over to the public, to help us understand,
why sustainable palm oil is the plan.

Ready and able, let’s reset the balance,
With the, Sustainable Palm Oil Challenge
It's a little thing we can all manage,
so let’s Act for Wildlife, reverse the damage,
Nature’s nervous, so let’s go the distance,

What’s the purpose? PREVENTING EXTINCTION!

So take the challenge, it’s the way to go
For sustainable palm oil - SPO,
Some think, that their choices don’t really show,
But we add them all together and our influence grows,
So choose an SPO the next time you shop,
To begin with just find a single thing to swap,
And if more people are willing to give a shot,
It will drive demand for sustainability up,
Its not about boycotts, diminishing some…
…developing countries’ major sources of income,
boycotting palm oil would increase demand
for other less efficient oil-producing plants.
Of all the vegetable oils produced in fields,
Palm oil is the one that gives the greatest yield,
But we gotta take a look at all the stock that’s available,
supporting an industry that’s more sustainable.

Ready and able, let’s reset the balance,
With the, Sustainable Palm Oil Challenge
It's a little thing we can all manage,

The choice of a purchase can make a real difference
