At Wat’s Dyke C.P school we have a team of 12 Digital Leaders who help to develop children’s digital skills and competence across the curriculum. They are focussing on delivering the skills and knowledge outlined in the new Digital Competence Framework. The Digital Leaders work with both staff and children from Reception to Year Fiveand thoroughly enjoy their roles.

The Digital Leaders have received up to date training from external providers as well as in house teachers on areas such as E-Safety, downloading apps, PowerPoint creation, uploading information to class ‘seesaw’ accounts and Hwb+. Our school Digital Leader program allows the Digital Leaders to regularly join classes to train their peers as well as holding whole school information services.

The Digital leaders have their own club after school where they are responsible for planning learning, training staff and updating school ipads with the most up-to-date apps and other information etc.

This year out Digital Leaders will be helping to promote aspects of the new DCF n classes! We are looking forward to a productive year!

2015-2016 Digital Leaders!

This term (Spring 2016) the Digital Leaders have been involved in:

*Digital Leader training sessions. (Stop Frame Animations using j2spotlight on Hwb)

*Stop Frame Animations using j2spotlight on Hwb teaching sessions (with year one to four children).

*Planning and ensuring the smooth running of our ‘Safer Internet Day 2016’.

*Planning and delivering a whole school service on ‘Making the Internet a Better Place to be’.

The children of Wat’s Dyke C.P. School took part in the ‘UK Safer Internet Day’ 2016 on the 9th February.

This year’s theme was ‘Play Your Part for a Better Internet!’ The children had the opportunity to make the most of the positive opportunities offered online, whilst giving them the skills, knowledge and support they need to navigate any online risks they may come across.

The school has appointed twelve Digital Leaders who are responsible for delivering whole school services, ICT Training in the classrooms and supporting their peers to improve their digital learning. They took an active part in planning the ‘UK Safer Internet Day 2016’ and ensuring it ran smoothly across the school.

The whole day was dedicated to staying safe online and was introduced through a whole school ‘Safer Internet Day’ service which was led by our Digital Leader Team. During the service the children were involved in discussions, interactive activities and quiet reflection. Following the service, the children got involved in a range of activities such as making interactive information leaflets on the ipads, E-Safety animations and designing internet safety posters and leaflets.

Mrs Emma Roberts, class teacher and Skills Development Leader at Wat’s Dyke C.P. School, described the day as “a highly interactive and fun day where the children learnt a lot about staying safe online whilst continuing to develop their ICT skills”. Jack Chapman, a pupil at Wat’s Dyke, talked about the day and said “It was an awesome day. I learnt so much about staying safe online and I even created a cool animation!”

Lots of fun was had by all!

PC Yvette came into school to talk to the children about staying safe online. The children really enjoyed hearing what she had to say and learnt a lot.

The children in Early Years drew pictures of people they could go to if they see something that upsets them online. They drew pictures on the interactive whiteboard, the ipads and the laptops…some even used good old fashioned paint!
